# Board of Directors



Under the leadership of Kevan Cowan, the 12-elected directors, elected in accordance with the [*Election of Directors Regulations*](https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-2015-131/page-1.html#h-817106), are charged with governing and managing the affairs of the organization with a focus on strategic and policy matters. The board of directors delivers a critical function to the success of the Canadian payment systems and in turn, the economy.

Payments Canada's Board of Directors is composed of a majority of independent directors, augmented with member representatives who are experts in the payment industry.
