[Amendments to the *Canadian Payments Act* in 2025](https://www.payments.ca/expanded-access-critical-payment-infrastructure-will-drive-competition-and-growth-canada) further expanded [membership eligibility](https://www.payments.ca/connect/membership) to include payment service providers as defined in the *Retail Payment Activities Act*, credit union locals that are members of a central, and clearing houses and systems designated under the *Payment Clearing and Settlement Act*. These additions reflect a growing and increasingly diverse membership, strengthening competition and innovation for the benefit of Canadian consumers and businesses.
