[News](https://www.payments.ca/insights/news-research?field_article_type=24) # Payments Canada's 2021 annual report now available May 31, 2022 Payments Canada is pleased to publish its annual report. 2021 was a year of delivery for Payments Canada, while we maintained our number one priority: the safety and soundness of our systems and our people. We supported our people through another year of a global pandemic, and delivered Lynx, Canada’s high-value payment system, which replaced the LVTS. In 2021, Payments Canada’s systems cleared and settled over $135 trillion — more than $539 billion every business day. Strong progress was made on the design and build of Canada’s first real-time exchange and clearing and settlement system, the Real-Time Rail (RTR), set to launch in mid-2023. Our valuable research provided insights to the payment ecosystem, we delivered a cyber security resilience strategy to manage risk, and launched new payment APIs for both Lynx and the Real-Time Rail (RTR). We worked closely with our members and stakeholders to continue to modernize Canada’s payment systems to ensure Canada and Canadian businesses remain globally competitive.
