The 2024 Payments Canada SUMMIT kicks off with excitement, energy and readiness to collectively navigate the evolving payment landscape

There are still two days left to catch the best thinkers, leaders and innovators in payments at The SUMMIT.

The excitement was palpable at Toronto's Beanfield Centre on May 29 as delegates came together to build new relationships, reconnect with familiar faces and engage with exciting ideas at Canada’s premier payment event — The Payments Canada SUMMIT.

In her welcome remarks, Kristina Logue, Co-CEO (Interim) and Chief Financial Officer at Payments Canada spoke about the important role that each of us plays in shaping the payment landscape in Canada: “This is the place. Right here. Right now. No matter who you are or the role you play, this is a collective, this is a community and we are all here to make a stronger future in payments for Canada”.

There was much anticipation to hear from Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, Super Bowl Champion and Medical Resident. In his keynote address, he shared his unique personal story about the importance of resiliency, teamwork and leadership — all critical drivers of large-scale transformation and imperative to the success of the payment industry. 

Highlights from day one include:

  • A keynote presentation from Jeremy Wilmot, the new President and CEO of Interac Corp. about the importance of embracing and advancing the “open era” in Canada to keep pace in the global economy.
  • A panel discussion about the importance of preserving financial stability and security while supporting innovation and growth with Sarah Paquet, Director and CEO of FINTRAC, Leah Anderson, President and CEO of Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation and Supriya Syal, Deputy Commissioner, Research, Policy and Education at the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada.
  • A compelling exchange of ideas on the Ideas Exchange stage about equity, access and inclusion in transit payments with Daniela Aubry, Deputy Chief, Payments Division at Metrolinx and Chair of Payments Canada’s Stakeholder Advisory Council.
