Payments Canada welcomes its newest Stakeholder Advisory Council members

Payments Canada welcomes five new and two returning members to its Stakeholder Advisory Council (SAC). These appointees bring fresh perspectives, vital expertise and experience from different corners of the Canadian payment industry. A sixth new appointee will be announced in the coming weeks.

Welcome to the 2023 SAC appointees.

New members*:

  • Ryan McLeod, Manager, Banking Strategy and Services, Treasury Operations – Government of Alberta
  • Ivy Luu, Vice President of Product – Nanopay Corporation
  • Katie Stone, Head of U.S. Federal Affairs and Canadian Affairs – Global Payments
  • Tom Carter, Product Director, Enterprise Payments – Telus Communications
  • Kevin Maloney, Senior Client Executive – Temenos

Returning members*:

  • Tracy Lagasse, Senior Industry Advisor, Financial Services – Microsoft

Payments Canada’s stakeholders are organizations who rely on its payment systems but don’t participate in them directly. SAC provides advice and counsel to Payments Canada’s leadership, Board of Directors and staff, which helps the organization make informed decisions regarding the challenges and opportunities for payment users and providers.

The new appointees represent a wide array of payment professionals and organizations: government, fintech, technology, telecommunications, software and banking. In addition to diversity in corporate interests, SAC members continue to be diverse in age, gender, skills and culture.

Meet the new members

The Government of Alberta brings a Western Canada and provincial government perspective to the council. Ryan McLeod is focused on updating and enhancing Alberta’s banking products and services to ensure they are cost-effective, timely and secure.

Nanopay's extensive expertise in collaboration between financial institutions and fintechs will be particularly beneficial to SAC. Ivy Luu sits on Nanopay’s leadership team, and acts as a proxy Board representative on Fintechs Canada when required.

Global Payments is a technology and software company that provides complete commerce ecosystems to businesses. They also advocate for strong regulatory compliance capabilities for organizations looking to participate on Canada’s national payment systems. Katie Stone is head of U.S. Federal Affairs and Canadian Affairs at Global Payments.

TELUS is one of Canada’s largest billers and are keen to get involved in discussions on the future of retail batch and bill payments. Tom Carter spearheads a payment innovation committee within TELUS which looks at treasury, mobile payments and bill payments.

Temenos works with clients in Canada to help them adapt and evolve their technology application infrastructure. Kevin Malone brings a deep understanding of the backend of payment processing within bank and non-bank institutions.

Welcome back our returning members

Microsoft returns to the council for a new three-year term. As Senior Industry advisor for Financial Services, Tracy Lagasse helps financial services customers modernize payments processes. KOHO brings the “challenger” banks perspective to the council, including interest in advancing dialogue around expanded access to Canada’s payment systems. Damier Xandrine serves as chief legal officer at KOHO and will represent the organization on the council.

Payments Canada would like to thank its outgoing council members for their many contributions. We would also like to thank all of this year’s applicants for their interest.

The Stakeholder Advisory Council debates and delivers insight to Payments Canada’s management team and board of directors on key elements of the future of payments.
