New and returning members appointed to Payments Canada Board of Directors
Appointments bring expertise in finance, innovation and global trade.
Payments Canada is pleased to announce the election of Mairead Lavery and Blair Wiley to its Board of Directors. Mairead joins as an Independent Director and Blair joins as a Member Director.
Mairead Lavery is the former president and CEO of Export Development Canada (EDC), where she was the first woman to lead the organization. During her tenure, EDC supported more than $100 billion in annual trade investment, helping over 30,000 Canadian companies reach 200 global markets. She has also held senior roles at Bombardier and currently serves on the board of the Conference Board of Canada and multiple advisory groups.
Blair Wiley is President and Director of Wealthsimple Investments Inc., a securities dealer, and Chief Legal Officer at Wealthsimple, where he leads regulatory strategy. He has helped Wealthsimple launch several Canadian firsts, including a mobile-first stock trading app, a regulated crypto platform and the first platform that offers fractional trading of Canadian shares. A former partner at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, he remains an active advisor in the fintech and regulatory space.

About the Board of Directors
Under the leadership of the Chair of the Board, 12 directors are elected in accordance with the Canadian Payments Act and the Election of Directors Regulations. The board is charged with governing and managing the affairs of the organization and delivers a critical function to the success of the Canadian payment systems and in turn, the economy.
As set out in the Canadian Payments Act, the board is composed of a majority of independent directors, augmented with member directors, along with the President and Chief Executive Officer.
