Payments Canada launches webinar series to support public consultation on the Real-Time Rail legal framework
Payments Canada is launching a series of educational webinars to support broad public engagement on the legal framework for the Real-Time Rail (RTR), Canada’s forthcoming real-time payment system.
The webinars are designed to inform responses to a public consultation, happening May 20, 2025 until July 2, 2025. Responses to the consultation will inform the legal framework critical to ensuring the RTR’s safety, efficiency and resiliency.
The webinars will take place over four weeks and cover the following topics:
- May 22, 2025 | time: 12:00 - 1:00 ET - Payments Canada and the RTR explained

A look at the regulatory and system requirements organizations must meet to access and participate in the RTR. - June 5, 2025 | time: 12:00 - 1:00 ET - RTR recourse and compliance

What happens if a payment doesn’t go as planned? This session will cover recourse, exception handling and the RTR compliance framework. - June 12, 2025 | time: 12:00 - 1:00 ET - Fraud management on the Real-Time Rail
Speakers: Paula Dunlop, Vice President, Policy, Government Relations and Research, Payments Canada and Darrel Jantzi, Director, Fraud, Payments Canada
With safety and security as our top priority, this webinar outlines the proposed fraud policies and centralized fraud capabilities within the RTR.
The webinars will be publicly available in both official languages. Each webinar will be followed by a bilingual Q and A session. Questions can be submitted in advance to consultation@payments.ca. Webinars will be recorded and published on payments.ca.
