Key achievements in 2025
Exceptional system availability: In 2025, our system availability rates were 100 per cent for ACSS and 99.91 per cent for Lynx, ensuring that Canada’s economy kept pace with a fast-moving world through the foundation of our reliable payment systems.
Advanced the delivery of the Real-Time Rail (RTR): Industry readiness for the launch of real-time payments was a key focus in 2025, along with comprehensive testing and an emphasis of our made-in-Canada approach for the RTR and its centralized fraud services.
The future of Canadian payments: We fully transitioned our Lynx system to the ISO 20022 financial message standard (MX messages), enabling data-rich payments to support smoother cross-border exchanges and increase automation, conducted a public consultation to refine processes related to bill payment processing within the Automated Clearing Settlement System (ACSS). Proposed amendments were aimed at improving efficiency, user experience and aligning industry practices.
Canadian payments recognized as a foundation of the country’s economy: The Government of Canada recognized the importance of modern payments to drive competition, foster innovation and economic growth and support monetary sovereignty in its 2025 Budget: Canada Strong. This included support for the delivery of the RTR, which was recognized as “Canada’s nation-building payment infrastructure.”
Delivering key insights: Our comprehensive research provided the ecosystem with informative and timely insights into payments, including how Canadians pay, readiness for the RTR and fraud and payments.
Outgoing Board Chair Garry Foster reflected on the significant transformation during his tenure, noting how the board navigated global volatility while building a foundation for the future of Canadian commerce.
