The 2025 Payments Canada SUMMIT closes with a deep dive into the future of payments

Over two and a half days, more than 2,000 delegates came together at The Payments Canada SUMMIT to explore the future of payments. The event united diverse voices and experiences from across the evolving payment ecosystem, reinforcing its status as Canada’s premier payment event.

A wide array of topics were explored, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, system resilience, consumer-directed finance, ISO 20022, fraud and real-time payments. In her closing remarks, Susan Hawkins, President and CEO of Payments Canada, emphasized collaboration and unity as the driving force behind the work ahead:

“The future of payments in Canada is being shaped by the work you are all doing — and it’s being shaped by collaboration: collaboration among regulators, members and stakeholders. If any of you do not yet feel part of team Canada, please do — from this day forward. You are part of this team, and together we are going to succeed.”

The day concluded with The SUMMIT Social, sponsored by Symcor, where delegates came together for an evening of connection, collaboration and meaningful networking — building new relationships and strengthening ties across the industry.

For the first time, the final day of The SUMMIT featured six Deep Dive sessions, which drew strong participation. These expert-led discussions allowed delegates to examine complex topics in depth, sparking new insights and conversations. Covering key areas such as artificial intelligence, cross-border payments, customer experience, fraud prevention and mitigation, policy, rules and regulations, and real-time payments, the sessions marked an exciting and valuable addition to the event’s programming.

Several key announcements were made during the event, including:
