The 2026 Payments Canada SUMMIT concludes, reinforcing Canada’s payment infrastructure as a foundation for national prosperity and innovation

Over two and a half days, more than 2,300 delegates from over 320 diverse organizations across the payment ecosystem gathered to explore the future of payments at The Payments Canada SUMMIT, Canada’s premier payment event.

The discussions spanned a wide range of topics, including real-time payments, artificial intelligence, cross-border payments, open banking, digital assets, fraud and more. In her closing session, Susan Hawkins, President and CEO of Payments Canada, alongside the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Finance and National Revenue, emphasized the shared responsibility of the payment industry to innovate securely and efficiently for the benefit of Canada’s global competitiveness:

"The payment ecosystem is at a period of transformation where the choices we make now will shape the everyday lives of Canadians and Canada's competitiveness as well. We have a real opportunity to drive economic growth for years to come."

Several key announcements were made during the event, including:

Programming concluded with six highly attended deep dive sessions on day three, where participants examined the most important topics in payments in an interactive and engaging setting. Topics included real-time payments, payment transformation, open banking, digital assets, artificial intelligence and fraud prevention and mitigation, sparking new insights and critical conversations.
