Call for Papers: 7th joint Payments Canada and Bank of Canada research symposium

In support of this year’s joint research symposium, Payments Canada and the Bank of Canada are inviting central bank and academic researchers with interest and expertise in payments systems, digital currencies and fintech to submit their theoretical and applied research papers on the theme of shaping the future of payments. Accepted paper presentations will be incorporated into the agenda.

The symposium will be held from September 16 - 17, 2021 and will include opening and closing remarks from Timothy Lane, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada, and Tracey Black, President and CEO of Payments Canada. Selected research will be presented and discussed during the event. Topics include, but are not limited to: 

  • Innovation and payments technology
  • Optimal design of payments systems
  • Payments regulation
  • New applications for payments research
  • Implication of COVID-19 on payments

Paper submissions

Extended abstracts or completed papers must be submitted by email to the Bank of Canada by June 15, 2021. The program committee will select the accepted papers by July 1, 2021. Final versions of the selected papers are due by August 23, 2021.

Background

Each year, Payments Canada and the Bank of Canada host a joint research symposium with the aim of providing a forum to discuss latest developments in the payments ecosystem and inspire collaborations among policy makers, researchers and market participants that help shape the future of payments.
